Current updates as of Jan 21st, 2023

Hey there! :D

This devlog is on the lighter side, as I've been continuing a few things from the last one. Most of the images here I've posted to my Twitter btw.

But here it goes;

General Art;

-Refining and starting more CG art. I'll post some of it by the next devlog.

-Worked more on sprite blinking fixes lately. Most were of Sparky's this time around.

By doing this I realized he needed eyelashes. Idk why I didn't think he needed any. He looks much better with them.

Programming;

More coding placeholders such as;

-Finding a less cluttered way to reposition sprites recently, so I'll be using that all over the place, but neatly.

-Adding different ending sections

-Fixed some bugs during test playthroughs

Op Animation;

-Nothing much to report on here.

GUI;

-Finalized the textbox. Love how the texture on top of it turned out. It's exactly how I wanted it. Took me a million years to get to for some reason tho lol. I was alternating between transparencies for the textbox in particular. I may bump up the contrast, but that's about it.

-Switched out various things like the exit message box/frame, skip button boxes ect. with my own designs. Still have a few more to go, but these should be done by the next devlog-hopefully-

I really love how these look as well. Makes Nix Day feel even more like mine than it does already.

Music;

-Still refining a certain theme I started the other day.

Final Thoughts;

By the next devlog the blinking sprites should be done completely. I won't be doing lipflap movements as I was deliberating before. I'll leave the sprites just blinking. I have been considering adding more little background animations aside from the snow going on.

Secondly, until the next devlog I'll keep at the music composing and get back to the animation sections. I did plan to finish off an animation section recently but got caught up with other things. Will also be refining more CG art and general backgrounds.

Lastly, I want to refine the snow animation. I've been using a placeholder this entire time, mostly because I actually liked how it looked but part of me still wanted to change or alter it. I may end up leaving the original placeholder if I don't like how the 'refined' version of it turns out.

And on a general, somewhat off topic gamedev note, I'm thinking of entering a game jam for otome games(which are choose your own adventure romance visual novel type games geared towards women fyi) this year.

I've always wanted to enter a game jams, this one in particular. If I do, that will push development for Nix Day back by two months.  I'll be working on both simultaneously but my jam game would take most time in the two months that game jam goes on. Just a heads up if I decide to enter. I'll also make devlogs for that.

All in all, that's about it.

Thanks for reading, until next time bye!
